Savage Earth: Cold Moon
Sheild backs are a breed of Glyptodon (Greek for “grooved or carved tooth”), large armoured mammals of the family Glyptodontidae. They are relatives of the armadillos but are roughly the same size and weight as a Volkswagen Beetle, though flatter in shape. With its rounded, bony shell and squat limbs, it superficially resembled turtles, and the much earlier dinosaurian ankylosaur, as an example of the convergent evolution of unrelated lineages into similar forms.
Glyptodon are herbivores, grazing on grasses and other plants found near rivers and small bodies of water. thier scales are prized by non industrial cultures for making armour and weapons with which makes them woth hunting and farming. Herbivore Saurians have often tamed Sheild backs and used them in battle.
