River cat

River cats are large, cat-like oxyaenid creodont around 1.2 to 1.8 metres (3.9 to 5.9 ft) long, not including the tail, making it around the same size as a panther. It has short legs with broad feet, making it a poor runner, but a quite good swimmer and a reasonably good climber.

Anatomically, characteristic features are a short, broad skull, deep jaws, and teeth designed for crushing rather than shearing. They are specialized carnivores feeding on fish, birds, small mammals, eggs and insects, and are often guilty of raiding farms and villages for food.

Although not overtly violent, they have been known to attack when cornered and are more than capable of killing a dog or a small child if they see no alternative or escape. Even a fully grown Saurian would do well to avoid to teeth and claws of an enraged River cat.
