Savage Earth: Cold Moon
Hyaenodon (“hyaena-toothed”) is a genus of Hyaenodonts, a group of carnivorous creodonts of the family Hyaenodontidae endemic to all continents except South America, Australia and Antarctica. they have no relation to true Hyena but share many similarities of structure and jaw power. Typical of early carnivorous mammals, they have very massive skulls but only small brains. It has a long skull with a narrow snout – much larger in relation to the length of the skull than in canine carnivores, for instance. Its neck is shorter than its skull, while its body is long and robust and terminates in a long tail.
Typically hunting in small packs of between 3 to 5 animals they bring down much larger prey and in larger numbetrs can decimate larger fauna in an area. For this reason they are hunted by farmers and hunter gatherers when their populations rise.
